Interview basics: before, during and after
Simple things that make interviews far less scary and help you come across at your best.
Before: prepare three stories
You can't predict every question, but most come down to: a time you helped someone, a time you solved a problem, and a time you worked in a team. Prepare one short story for each.
Use STAR: Situation, Task, Action, Result. It keeps your answer clear and stops you waffling.
During: it's a conversation, not a test
Arrive a few minutes early, turn your phone off, and take a breath. A little nervousness is normal and fine.
If you don't understand a question, it's okay to ask them to repeat it. Take a second to think before you answer β silence is better than rushing.
During: show you want it
Employers hire attitude as much as skill. Smiling, listening, and showing you're keen to learn goes a long way at entry level.
Have one question ready to ask them, like βWhat does a normal day look like?β β it shows real interest.
After: a quick thank-you
A short thank-you message afterwards is a nice touch and keeps you in their mind.
If you don't get it, ask for feedback. It's free coaching for next time.
